Common clamping methods in mechanical machining

Common clamping methods in mechanical Machining

1. Direct alignment clamp

This method is to fix the position of the workpiece directly on the machine by percentile meter, scriber or visual inspection.

2. Scribing, aligning and clamping

In this method, the center line, symmetry line and machining line of each surface to be machined are drawn on the blank according to the part drawing, then the workpiece is loaded on the machine tool, and the clamping position of the workpiece is located on the machine tool according to the drawn line.

This clamping method has low productivity, low precision and high technical requirements for workers. It is generally used to process complex and bulky parts in small batch production, or where the size tolerance of blanks is too large to be clamped directly with fixtures.

3. Fixture clamping

The fixture is specially designed according to the requirements of the machining procedure. The positioning elements on the fixture can make the workpiece occupy the correct position quickly relative to the machine tool and the cutting tool. Without alignment, the fixture can ensure the fixture positioning accuracy of the workpiece. The production rate of clamping with fixture is high and the positioning accuracy is high, but special fixture needs to be designed and manufactured, which is widely used in batch and mass production.
