What details should be noted when tool setting in Machining Parts?

CNC processing is basically the same as ordinary processing, but it has its own characteristics. CNC Machining is flexible and highly automated. It is especially suitable for Machining curves and curved surfaces with complex contours and shapes, as well as complex box and Prismatic Parts with a large number of holes and grooves. Under the condition of multiple varieties and small batch production, the use of CNC machine tools can achieve higher economic benefits.

Determination of tool setting point and tool changing point in CNC machining. Tool setting is the starting point of tool movement relative to workpiece during CNC machining. As the program starts from this point, the tool setting point is also known as the program starting point or tool starting point. In programming, the location of tool setting point should be considered first. When machining accuracy is not high, some surfaces of workpiece or fixture can be directly applied to tool setting face. When machining accuracy is high, the tool setting point should be selected as far as possible on the design or process benchmark of the parts, such as parts positioned by holes, the axis of the hole as the tool point is more appropriate.

In order to determine the relationship between the machine tool standard system and the workpiece coordinate system, the tool setting point must have a certain coordinate relationship with the positioning datum of the workpiece. The selection of tool setting points should facilitate the calculation of coordinate values and make the tool setting convenient. When setting tool, it should match with the cutter location point. The so-called tool location point, for flat end milling cutter, it refers to the intersection point between tool axis and tool bottom surface. For ball end milling cutter, it refers to the ball center. For a lathe tool, it refers to the tip of a tool; for a drill, it means a drill point. For wire electrode cutting machine, it refers to the focus of line electrode axis and part surface. When tool changing is needed in the process of CNC machining, the tool changing point should be specified. The position of tool changing point should be set according to the principle that the workpiece, fixture and machine tool should not be damaged when tool changing.
