What is plastic machining and what are the plastic machining methods?

Although plastic parts are mostly made by injection molding, in general, they must be machined to obtain accurate and economical parts, for example, plastic parts using mechanical Machining methods to remove the gate, riser, flash and so on. For the plate, bar and other plastic parts, but also need to use cutting and punching and other mechanical machining methods for machining.

Machining of plastic parts generally use Metal Machining equipment. However, due to the difference between the performance of plastic and metal, and a wide range of plastics, different types of different performance are quite different, so the plastic parts of the mechanical machining has its own characteristics.

Methods of Machining Plastic:

1, Turning: if special high requirements on surface of plastic parts, the cutter head should be designed for wide line. For cutting tools, the shape of a long, elongated blade shall be designed to avoid excessive burrs. When machining thin and flexible plastics, it is better to use a knife - like structure.

2, Milling: if it is milling plane, end milling is more economical than circumferential milling. For the circumferential and forming cutter, it should not have more than two cutting edges, so that the deviation caused by the blade vibration amplitude is reduced to a minimum, at the same time to ensure that there is enough space between the props. Single tool can achieve the best milling performance and surface quality.

3, Drilling: you can use the twist drill, the spiral angle of the range of 12 degrees to 16 degrees, in order to facilitate chip removal, spiral groove to be smooth. When machining holes with large diameter, step by step drilling or hollow drilling or direct resection is necessary. When drilling a solid material, pay special attention to the use of a sharper drill. Otherwise, increasing pressure during the drilling may cause the plastic parts to crack. Compared with non reinforced plastic, reinforced plastics produce greater internal stress and lower impact strength during machining, thus cracking more easily. So, if possible, heat the section to about 120 degrees before drilling the reinforcing plastic.

4, sawing: sawing process usually used thinner sawing, thicker parts, should try to avoid the heat generated by friction. It is better to use serrated, sharp and serrated saw blades.

5, tapping: it is best to use thread flower knife to machining threads, and the use of double teeth flower knife can also avoid flying edges. We do not recommend using a die when tapping, because it will be cut again when the die is in the back of the knife.
